Please see below important information in relation to the Injury Benefit Funds & Insurance for players.
GAA Injury Benefit Fund – Gaelic Football and Hurling
The GAA injury Benefit Fund is self-funded, and funded entirely from GAA funds with no outside involvement. It does not seek to compensate fully for injuries sustained but to supplement other schemes such as Health Insurance.
Therefore, each player needs to ensure that they have adequate cover in place to meet their own individual needs and personal circumstances. The GAA Injury Benefit Fund is only in place to cover benefits which cannot be claimed elsewhere and is a benefit cover only. Those making a claim from the fund must exhaust all other avenues (e.g. VHI, Laya etc) before making a claim.
It is essential that each player familiarise themselves with the benefit cover available. There is a maximum amount payable under each benefit category, for example, Medical Benefit will only be paid to a maximum of €5,200. There are also other restrictions for example in the absence of surgery, there is no cover for physiotherapy.
Please CLICK HERE for more information including a copy of the summary document. Cover is effective from June 1 to May 31 each year.
The above benefits are only applicable once a claim is reported on the DWF Claims portal within 60 days of the injury date. The injury date is day 1.
There is no cover under the GAA Injury Benefit Fund for injuries sustained at unauthorised \ unofficial competitions, charity events, recreational activities such as Dads and Lads for example and fundraisers. Social Members, non-playing and non-coaching members are not covered under the GAA Injury Benefit Fund for injuries sustained during GAA activities.
LGFA Injury Fund
The LGFA Injury Fund is an injury fund, set up to assist members with some reimbursement for medical expenses incurred due to an injury sustained during ladies gaelic football. It is NOT an insurance policy. There is no insurance company involved in any way with the fund and therefore there is no insurance policy number associated with the LGFA Injury Fund.

Camogie Association Insurance
The Camogie Association, unlike its GAA and LGFA counterparts, does not administer its own injury scheme. This means that injury cover/insurance must be purchased from insurance providers, operating independently in the private sector. Once membership is paid a list of eligible players both adult and youth are provided to the insurer. For a table of benefits please contact secretary.camogie.ardclough@camogie.ie
Registration and Membership – Playing Members
All senior / adult players over 18 years must have paid their membership before returning / starting training or at the latest by 31st January each year. This is to ensure you are covered by the relevant Injury Benefit Fund/Insurance. There are no exceptions to this. Where the player is availing of instalments, the first instalment must be paid prior to the 31st January each year.

What happens in the event of an injury?
If an adult player receives an injury or strain in training or a match that requires treatment with physiotherapy, they must discuss this with their manager. They will be given an order number which they must provided to a pre-approved qualified Physiotherapist. The club will cover a maximum of half the cost up to three visits. The player must cover the other half of the cost.

Making a claim
To make a claim to the injury fund, the injury must have been sustained in a training event or official match.
Training
If the injury occurs during training, please inform the coach in charge of the session either during the session or as soon as possible after the session has concluded. A report of the injury will need to be submitted to the relevant club secretary (LGFA, Camogie, Gaelic Football, Hurling) which must include the date of the training session, a description of what happened to sustain the injury, what action was taken and who was present at the time. A letter outlining these circumstances must be submitted with the claim from the club secretary.
Official Match (including Go Games)
If the injury occurs during a match it must be detailed in the referee’s report so it is essential that ALL injuries are reported to the referee. For a claim to be processed, a referee’s report must be submitted with the claim.
Challenge Matches / Blitz
All challenge games / blitz outside of normal official scheduled fixtures must be registered with the appropriate association. If the match has not been registered in advance, claims to the injury fund will not be accepted.
Player Welfare
The welfare of our players is of paramount importance to our Club and we encourage players (or parents of juveniles) and coaches to familiarise themselves with the details and constraints of the different schemes outlined above as well as the procedures to be followed.
