Never was a book more aptly titled than the late Manchán Magan’s book Ninety-Nine Words for Rain ! We seem to be experiencing all of them this week.

🪧A reminder that the pitches in Ardclough remain closed until further notice. Training only on all-weather or skills wall.

It was an early start for some of the St Anne’s pupils as they did hurling before school, run by our GPO Emmet and supported by our hurling coaches. Great to get some activity in before the school day.

Even with games winding down it’s still very busy around the club, especially for poor secretaries and treasurers who are frantically getting ready for AGMs😮‍💨

🏆U14 Hurling Champions & League Winners visit training
Our young hurlers were delighted to have a visit from not 1 but 2 winning U14 teams – our league winners from the spring and our U14 championship winners from last week! Lots of brilliant questions from our young hurlers and huge thanks to the U14s for coming along on a really wet evening.

 🏐🏑On the pitch

The fixtures calendar is certainly looking empty ! We are nearly finished with our 2025 season, but no fear it’s only a short break before 2026  !!

Our U23 Edward’s team got off to a great start against Castlemitchell on Friday night winning by 3 goals on a scoreline of 4-13 to 1-13.

Fantastic news on Saturday -  well done to our U16 D9 Straffard team who won their county final on Saturday against Kilcock , we are so proud of you👏 Well deserved end to the season. We knew by the large convoy of cars beeping and cheering them all the way to Ardclough🚗🚨 !! Who needs social media !

Our U7s had a great morning in Leixlip playing a blitz , huge thanks to John Doran for organising and inviting us along 👏

Sunday saw us back in Hawkfield with the U12s playing Kill in the C Championship. What a performance , they played amazing with a great come back💪 , battling hard and just losing by 4 points. It has been a great introduction for them to a bigger pitch and we will see great things from this team next year with another year at U12 for them.

And just when you couldn’t take anymore drama😮‍💨, the U12 A Championship final took place on Monday against Naas. Once again a strong come back in the 2nd half just wasn’t enough to get back onto a winning score line and the team lost by 5 points. Two great goal chances just at the end didn’t go our way and sometimes we have days like that!  What a year for this team, we are so proud of them.  👏👏

A heart-warming sight at the end of the game, as the players lined up to shake hands with Naas, to see parents, relatives, members of our club and community out in force to support the team. Wrapped around them 3 or 4 deep with people applauding a great effort in a county final, they never gave up🥰. Roll on 2026 and U14 !

Our last game of the week was our U20 camogs travelling to Johnstownbridge on a rainy Wednesday night coming away with a win – well done to the team

🗓️ Coming up this weekend

Our U23 St Edwards team continue their league tonight and next Friday assuming pitches playable

And our U8 footballers play a challenge game against neighbours Celbridge at 2.30 in Ardclough – Ardclough Abú

💙❤️🤍 Straffard
Huge thanks to Sean for his brilliant club notes every week 👏👏👏and all his work as Communications Officer for Straffard..  There is a huge amount of organisation and work that goes into the role and we loved reading all the news about the teams each week.

Particular highlight during the year was the Girls Take Over Day for International Women’s Day. A huge amount of work put into each team on the day. HerSport.ie state that every year in Ireland, one in five girls drops out of sport between primary and post-primary school and by age 20, one in two has left sport entirely. We have to continue to invest and promote our girls and encourage them to continue playing. It’s great to see the teams out every week, playing challenge games and getting success for their hard work.

Reminder that the Straffard Award nights are on next Friday 🏅🏅🏅! And the AGM just before it on the 19th.

And just a note that the U14 D2 final has been postponed
